Hess Corporation

A producer of crude oil and natural gas, Hess explores for these resources in places like offshore Guyana. The company began in 1933, when 19-year-old Leon Hess bought a single second-hand truck in Asbury Park, New Jersey, to deliver fuel oil, and it later merged with Amerada Petroleum to become Amerada Hess before taking the simpler Hess name. Each holiday season since 1964, Hess has offered a famous toy truck — starting with a replica of its tanker, with batteries included, a tradition the founder insisted on.
