An American maker of packaged meat products, this company put the sausage on American tables under familiar brands like Hillshire Farm, Jimmy Dean breakfast sausage, and Ball Park hot dogs. It was born in 2012 when Sara Lee split in two, spinning off its North American meat business under the name of its most famous label. That name traces back to 1934, when Austrian butcher Friedrich "Fritz" Bernegger started making European-style sausage on a small farm in New London, Wisconsin.
