Himax Technologies, Inc.

A fabless semiconductor company based in Tainan, Taiwan, Himax makes the display driver chips and timing controllers that tell pixels what to show in TVs, laptops, phones, car dashboards, and e-readers, plus ultra-compact LCoS microdisplays for augmented-reality glasses and projectors. Brothers Dr. Biing-Seng Wu and Jordan Wu founded it in 2001; the elder brother had earlier built Taiwan's first TFT-LCD panel and opened its first TFT-LCD plant. Its name carries no hidden story — it was simply chosen to brand the new firm.
