Home Point Capital Inc.

A home-loan lender based in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Home Point Capital (branded Homepoint) originates residential mortgages through wholesale brokers rather than selling them directly to consumers. Founded in 2014 by industry veteran Willie Newman with backing from private-equity firm Stone Point Capital, it launched by acquiring New Jersey lender Maverick Funding for its licenses and platform. Newman deliberately built a fresh "de novo" startup instead of adopting a legacy lender, and the firm rebranded itself "Homepoint" in 2020.
