Homology Medicines Inc

A maker of genetic medicines for rare diseases, Homology Medicines built its treatments on a family of naturally occurring adeno-associated viruses discovered in human stem cells. The Bedford, Massachusetts company, founded in 2015, used these viruses to deliver gene therapies and a nuclease-free gene editing process it called AMEnDR. Its name comes from "homologous recombination," the natural DNA repair mechanism its editing approach harnesses — a gentler alternative to tools like CRISPR that cut DNA. The technology grew out of research by co-founder Saswati Chatterjee at the City of Hope cancer center in California.
