Honda Motor Co., Ltd.
A maker of cars, motorcycles, power equipment and even small jets, Honda builds everyday vehicles like the Civic and Accord, plus the luxury Acura line, and is one of the world's largest motorcycle makers. It began in 1948 when engineer Soichiro Honda bolted surplus radio generator engines onto bicycles in postwar Japan, naming the company after himself — "Honda" literally means "main rice field." A self-taught blacksmith's son, he built the firm from those motorized bikes into a global name.
