A distributor of technology products, Ingram Micro sits between big computer and software makers and the stores and resellers that sell their goods to the public, moving hardware, software, and cloud services around the world. It began as Micro D, founded in 1979 by husband-and-wife teachers Geza Czige and Lorraine Mecca, who brought an "academic approach to logistics" to the young computer industry. When Ingram Industries bought and merged Micro D with its own computer unit in 1989, the combined firm took the name Ingram Micro.
