Iamgold Corporation

A Canadian gold mining company that explores for, develops, and operates mines in Canada and West Africa, including the Côté Gold mine in Ontario and the Essakane mine in Burkina Faso. It was founded in 1990 by a geologist, a lawyer, and a businessman who were inspired by the legend of Mansa Musa, the 14th-century king of Mali famed for his gold, and set out for West Africa to hunt for the metal. The name IAMGOLD comes from its original title, International African Mining Gold Corporation.
