A diversified holding company run by activist investor Carl Icahn, this master limited partnership owns businesses in energy, automotive repair, food packaging, and real estate, and runs private investment funds that buy stakes in companies and push for change. Icahn, who made his name in the 1980s pressuring companies like TWA, incorporated the firm in 1987 and gave it its current name in 2007 after merging with his American Real Estate Partners.
