Imperial Brands Plc (formerly Imperial Tobacco Group Plc)
A maker of cigarettes, rolling tobacco, and vaping products, Imperial Brands sells familiar names like Davidoff, West, Gauloises, and blu e-cigarettes around the world. It was born in 1901 when thirteen British tobacco firms—including W.D. & H.O. Wills and John Player & Sons—joined forces to defend their home market against an American takeover attempt, taking the name Imperial to signal that unity. In 2016 the company dropped "Tobacco" from its name and became Imperial Brands as it moved into nicotine alternatives.
