A semiconductor company that designed low-power memory chips and mixed-signal parts, including timing clocks and static RAM (SRAM) used in communications, computing, and consumer electronics. Founded in 1980 in San Jose, California, it made its name by shipping the industry's first low-power, high-speed SRAM in 1981, followed two years later by the first CMOS FIFO memory. Its name is simply a description of its trade: making integrated circuits, or "devices."
