A specialty pharmaceutical maker founded in 1990 by John Kapoor and headquartered in Chandler, Arizona, that developed prescription medicines for pain and nausea. Its flagship product, Subsys, is a fentanyl spray taken under the tongue for breakthrough pain in cancer patients already on around-the-clock opioid therapy. The company also made Syndros, a liquid form of synthetic THC used to treat nausea from chemotherapy and appetite loss in people with AIDS. The name's meaning was never officially disclosed.
