Intersil Corp
A maker of high-performance analog and mixed-signal semiconductors, Intersil built the low-power CMOS chips that ran some of the earliest electronic watches and calculators, and later supplied power management circuitry used across consumer electronics. Founded in 1967 by Swiss physicist Jean Hoerni—one of the "traitorous eight" who broke away to create Fairchild Semiconductor—its name was coined as shorthand for "International Silicon." The company was absorbed by General Electric, then Harris, and eventually acquired by Renesas in 2016.
