A Papua New Guinea oil and gas explorer, InterOil was founded in 1997 and grew from drilling wells to building the country's first refinery, the Napa Napa plant in Port Moresby. Its biggest prize came in 2006 with the discovery of the Elk-Antelope gas fields, among Asia's largest undeveloped gas resources. In 2017 the company was folded into ExxonMobil, wrapping up a two-decade run in one of the world's most remote energy frontiers.
