A maker of home medical equipment that helps people move, breathe, and rest, Invacare builds wheelchairs, mobility scooters, walkers, respiratory gear, and therapeutic beds used in homes and long-term care facilities. Its roots reach back to an 1885 Ohio company that made tricycles and wheelchairs for Civil War veterans, and its name comes from the slogan "Innovation in Healthcare." In 1979, marketing executive Mal Mixon led a buyout of the wheelchair division to launch the modern company.
