Joy Global Inc
A maker of heavy machinery for digging coal, copper, iron ore and other minerals out of the ground. Joy Global's two famous brands were Joy, for underground mining machines like continuous miners and shuttle cars, and P&H, for giant surface shovels and draglines. Founded in Milwaukee, the company's Joy name traces to a young engineer, Joseph Joy, who invented a mechanical coal loader in the 1920s; it later grew into one of the world's largest makers of mining equipment before being acquired by Japan's Komatsu in 2017.
