A maker of flat-rolled steel, AK Steel produced carbon, stainless, and electrical steels used by automakers and appliance and construction companies across the country. It began in 1899 in Middletown, Ohio, as The American Rolling Mill Company, better known by its acronym Armco. The "AK" came from a partnership between Armco and Japan's Kawasaki Steel; the company was acquired by Cleveland-Cliffs in 2020.
