A commercial mortgage real estate investment trust that lends to owners of big commercial properties — offices, apartments, industrial buildings, and hotels — by originating and buying senior loans secured by those assets. Incorporated in 2014 and public since 2017, it is managed by an affiliate of the global investment firm KKR. The KKR name comes from the surnames of its three founders — Kohlberg, Kravis, and Roberts — who left Bear Stearns in 1976 to start the firm.
