A South Korean electronics giant, LG Electronics makes everyday gadgets most people will recognize: TVs, washing machines, refrigerators, and the LG OLED displays in many living rooms, plus the phones and audio gear behind the brand. It grew out of the Lucky Chemical company founded in 1947 by Koo In-hwoi, whose name combined with the GoldStar brand it also built — hence "Lucky GoldStar," later shortened to LG. That little naming trick explains why "LG" stands for nothing in particular; the company even plays up the slogan "Life's Good" to match the initials.
