A hotel operator whose La Quinta brand runs midscale and economy inns and suites across the United States and Latin America, serving business travelers and vacationers alike. It began in 1968 when Sam Barshop opened his first property in San Antonio, Texas, and picked the name "La Quinta," Spanish for "the fifth." Wyndham later folded the brand into its global portfolio.
