Landstar System, Inc.
An asset-light transportation and logistics company that moves freight without owning its own fleet of trucks. Instead of company-owned rigs, Landstar coordinates shipments through a far-flung network of independent freight agents and owner-operators who lease their trucks to the firm. It was formed in 1988 when a group of managers bought out the IU Truckload Group, and its name was chosen to suggest a vast reach across the land.
