A maker of smart locks and access systems for apartment buildings, Latch lets residents open their front door and unit with a smartphone app instead of a key. Founded in 2014 by Luke Schoenfelder, the company designs hardware for multifamily housing and pairs it with software that property managers use to control who gets in. Its name comes from the door latch its products replace, turning a tenant's phone into their digital key.
