American Railcar Industries Inc

A builder of freight railcars, headquartered in St. Charles, Missouri. American Railcar Industries designed and made covered hopper cars (for hauling grain, sugar, and plastic pellets) and tank cars (for chemicals, oils, and asphalt), plus repair and fleet services. The company was formed in 1988 and grew by buying the railcar assets of ACF Industries, whose own roots stretch back to an 1899 merger of thirteen smaller railcar makers. Its manufacturing arm was later sold to The Greenbrier Companies in 2019.
