A defense-electronics maker behind the night-vision goggles soldiers wear and the infrared sensors in tanks and aircraft, Leonardo DRS supplies the US military and its allies with imaging and sensing gear, plus naval power systems and computing for heavy combat machines. Born in 1969 as a small New York company founded by a former navy officer, it grew through decades of acquisitions and became an Italian-owned firm when defense giant Leonardo took control, later going public on its own. Its roots reach back to a company that helped develop early night-vision technology, making it one of the original names in seeing in the dark.
