A maker of cloud-based software that helps small and medium-sized retail, restaurant, and hospitality businesses run their stores, restaurants, and online shops — managing sales, inventory, customer data, and payments through its point-of-sale systems. Founded in 2005 in Montreal by programmer Dax Dasilva, the company started as a Mac-friendly alternative to the clunky Windows-based POS systems and paper ledgers that independent boutiques relied on at the time. The name "Lightspeed" was chosen to reflect that vision of fast, modern, high-performance software.
