Luxottica Group S.p.a.

A maker of eyeglasses and sunglasses, Luxottica designs, manufactures, and sells the frames behind famous brands like Ray-Ban and Oakley, and runs retail chains such as Sunglass Hut and LensCrafters. Founded in 1961 by former metalworker apprentice Leonardo Del Vecchio in Agordo, Italy, it began as a small workshop making parts for other eyewear brands before growing into one of the world's largest eyewear companies. Its name blends the Italian words "luce" (light) and "ottica" (optics), and in 2018 it merged with the French lens maker Essilor to form EssilorLuxottica.
