A global hospitality and entertainment company, MGM Resorts International runs destination resorts, casinos, and live shows in Las Vegas and beyond, plus digital betting through BetMGM. It traces back to investor Kirk Kerkorian, who bought the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studio in 1969 and opened the first MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas in 1973 — the brand name borrowed straight from the movie studio. That film and casino pairing later split into separate companies, so MGM's roaring lion logo is a nod to its Hollywood roots even though the two no longer share a business.
