A multinational property and casualty insurer that covers niche risks bigger carriers often overlook—workers' compensation for small businesses and extended warranties sold through its AmTrust Risk Solutions arm. Founded in 1998 in downtown Manhattan by brothers George and Michael Karfunkel and Barry Zyskind, the same family that earlier built American Stock Transfer & Trust Company. The name blends "American" and "Trust"; the company went private in 2018.
