Medivation Inc
A San Francisco biopharmaceutical company that develops medicines for serious illnesses, best known for Xtandi (enzalutamide), an oral prostate cancer drug it co-developed and marketed with Japan's Astellas. Oncologist David Hung and investor Steve Gorlin founded the firm in 2003, after Hung—moved by a young breast cancer patient's death during his fellowship—resolved to do something about such diseases. Its name blends "medical" and "innovation." In 2016 Pfizer bought the company and absorbed it.
