Metromile Inc

A car insurer that charged by the mile, Metromile built a pay-per-mile auto insurance model for city drivers who don't drive much. Customers plugged its Pulse device into their car's diagnostic port to track mileage, which also helped locate a parked car or decode a check-engine light. Founded in 2011 by David Friedberg and Steve Pretre, the company was acquired by Lemonade in 2022.
