A provider of mobile data services that helped wireless carriers and brands launch and run their own app stores and content portals in the years before smartphones centralized everything. Founded in 2001 by Ryan Wuerch as PowerByHand, it merged with Pinpoint Networks in 2004 and renamed itself Motricity—a mashup of "mobile" and "electricity"—meant to suggest the invisible power behind getting content onto your handset.
