A wireless carrier that ran mobile phone networks under the Nextel brand across Latin America, serving business and everyday customers in countries like Brazil, Mexico, and Argentina with its signature push-to-talk "Direct Connect" walkie-talkie-style calling. It began in 1995 as McCaw International, the overseas arm of Nextel Communications, named for wireless pioneer Craig McCaw, who had just sold his McCaw Cellular to AT&T; it was renamed Nextel International in 1997 and NII Holdings in 2002.
