National Bank of Greece S.a.

Greece's oldest bank, founded in 1841 in Athens as the first bank of the modern Greek state, and today one of the country's four dominant financial institutions serving everyday savers, businesses, and large corporations with accounts, loans, cards, insurance, and digital banking. For much of its early history it printed the nation's banknotes, holding that privilege until 1928, when the role passed to the newly created Bank of Greece. Its hand is in surprising corners of Greek life, from financing the Corinth Canal to backing the National Theater.
