Nationstar Mortgage Holdings Inc
A mortgage company that started in 1994 as Centex Home Equity, a lending arm of homebuilder Centex, it was rebranded Nationstar Mortgage in 2006 after investment firm Fortress bought a majority stake. Today it services home loans—collecting monthly payments and managing escrow for property taxes and insurance—for millions of American homeowners, and rebranded as Mr. Cooper in 2017. Fun fact: there is no real "Mr. Cooper"; the name was chosen because focus groups said their best mortgage experiences felt like dealing with a helpful person such as "Joe" or "Bob."
