Neustar Inc

A technology and information services company that helps businesses identify people, prevent fraud, and run marketing campaigns, Neustar grew out of the telecom industry's need for a neutral referee. In 1999 it was spun off from Lockheed Martin to administer number portability — the system that lets you keep your phone number when you switch carriers — and its name is a play on the word "neutral." Now part of TransUnion, it still manages Canada's number portability system.
