Noble Energy, Inc.
An American oil and gas company that explored for and produced crude oil, natural gas, and natural gas liquids, with operations in the DJ and Permian Basins as well as big offshore fields in the Eastern Mediterranean like Leviathan and Tamar. It began in 1932 when Oklahoman Lloyd Noble, who'd bought a used steam drilling rig a decade earlier, founded Samedan Oil Corporation — a name stitched together from his three children, Sam, Ed, and Ann. That naming quirk stuck as the firm grew into Noble Energy, later folded into Chevron in 2020.
