Nuvasive Inc
A maker of surgical technology for spine surgery, NuVasive builds implants, instruments, and nerve-monitoring systems that let surgeons operate on the spine through smaller incisions. Its signature XLIF procedure approaches the spine from the side of the body, sparing patients the heavy muscle cutting of traditional back surgery. Founded in 1997 in San Diego by orthopedic surgeon Jim Marino, the company's name blends "new" and "invasive" to signal a less disruptive way of doing invasive procedures. In 2023 it merged with Globus Medical.
