A global investment firm that manages money for pension funds, endowments, and foundations, specializing in credit and distressed debt. It was co-founded in 1995 by Howard Marks and Bruce Karsh, who left the Trust Company of the West to start their own firm. The name was chosen to evoke the strength and longevity of an oak tree, and the firm is now part of Brookfield Asset Management.
