Obsidian Energy Ltd.
A Canadian oil and natural gas producer based in Calgary, Alberta, that explores for and produces petroleum in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin, with heavy oil in Peace River and light oil in the Viking and Willesden Green areas. Founded in 1979, it operated for decades as Penn West Petroleum before renaming itself Obsidian Energy in 2017. The name comes from obsidian, the dark volcanic glass whose glossy sheen resembles crude oil.
