A maker of cloud-based software for the real estate industry, AppFolio's flagship AppFolio Property Manager helps landlords and property managers handle leasing, rent collection, maintenance requests, and accounting from one online platform, with a tenant app to pay rent and file work orders. Founded in 2006 in Santa Barbara, California by Klaus Schauser and Jon Walker, the company started as a general business-tools maker before pivoting to property management in 2008. Its name blends "app" (its software) with "folio" (a portfolio of properties), and its co-founder had previously built the company behind GoToMyPC and GoToMeeting.
