Pengrowth Energy Corp
A Calgary-based oil and natural gas producer, Pengrowth Energy drilled for and sold crude oil and natural gas across Western Canada, including the Lindbergh thermal oil sands project near Bonnyville, Alberta, which uses steam to melt thick bitumen out of the ground. Entrepreneur James S. Kinnear founded the company in 1988 as the Pengrowth Gas Income Fund, a pioneer of the Canadian energy trust model that let everyday investors share in oil and gas production. The name blends "petroleum" and "growth," and the company was acquired by Cona Resources in January 2020.
