Penn Virginia Corporation
An independent oil and gas producer that drilled for crude and natural gas in the Eagle Ford Shale of South Texas, Penn Virginia began life in 1882 as the Virginia Coal & Iron Co., founded by a Philadelphia coal baron. Its name blends its Pennsylvania roots with its Virginia coal and iron holdings, and it kept that moniker for over a century before rebranding as Ranger Oil in 2021 and being absorbed by Baytex Energy in 2023.
