People'S United Financial, Inc.
A regional bank holding company headquartered in Bridgeport, Connecticut, People's United Financial offered checking and savings accounts, residential mortgages, and commercial loans to consumers, businesses, and municipal customers across the northeastern United States. It began in 1842 as the Bridgeport Savings Bank, and took the "People's" name in 1983 after acquiring People's Bank of Vermont. The "United" was added in 2007 to set it apart from other banks sharing the People's name in Massachusetts. In 2022 the company was acquired by M&T Bank and its branches were folded into that larger institution.
