Pernod Ricard SA
A French maker of wines, spirits and non-alcoholic drinks, Pernod Ricard is behind household names like Jameson whiskey, Absolut vodka, Beefeater gin, and Havana Club rum. It was born in 1975 when two long-time French rivals in anise-flavored drinks, Pernod and Ricard, merged and simply combined their founders' surnames. A fun quirk: the Ricard half traces back to 1932, when a 23-year-old named Paul Ricard launched "le vrai pastis de Marseille," and the Pernod side originally made absinthe before it was banned in France in 1915.
