Petrobras - Petroleo Brasileiro SA
A Brazilian state-owned energy giant, Petrobras explores for and produces oil and gas, mostly in the deep waters off Brazil's coast, and refines it into fuels for drivers and industries across the country. The company was born in 1953 under President Getúlio Vargas, after a popular nationalist campaign rallied around the slogan "O petróleo é nosso!" ("The oil is ours!"). Fun fact: that famous slogan was actually coined by a Rio de Janeiro schoolteacher who casually suggested the phrase to his students to paint on walls.
