One of the world's largest specialty chemicals makers, Element Solutions supplies the plating, soldering, and surface-finishing chemistries behind printed circuit boards and semiconductor packaging through its MacDermid Alpha brands. The business traces to 1922, when a Scot who had worked on the Panama Canal founded MacDermid in Waterbury, Connecticut, to sell an electrolytic brass cleaner. Renamed in 2019, the company chose "Element" to reflect how its chemistries are essential elements in modern manufacturing.
