Portland General Electric Company
An electric utility that generates, transmits and delivers power to homes and businesses across a large portion of Oregon, drawing on a mix of hydroelectric, wind, solar and natural gas. It was born in 1888 as the Willamette Falls Electric Company, founded by Edward Eastham and Parker Morey, and later became Portland General Electric. Its claim to fame: in 1889 it pulled off the nation's first long-distance electricity transmission, sending power 14 miles from a Willamette Falls hydro plant to light up 55 Portland streetlights.
