Portola Pharmaceuticals Inc
A biopharmaceutical company that developed treatments for blood-clotting disorders, Portola made Andexxa, an injectable antidote that reverses the effects of popular blood thinners like Xarelto and Eliquis during life-threatening bleeding, and Bevyxxa, an oral blood thinner. Founded in 2003 in South San Francisco, it took its name from Gaspar de Portolà, the Spanish explorer who was the first European to see San Francisco Bay. The company was acquired by Alexion Pharmaceuticals in 2020.
