Precision Castparts Corp
A maker of complex metal components for jet engines, power plants, and industrial machinery, Precision Castparts supplies parts like titanium compressor blades and discs to every major engine builder. It began in 1949 as a side project inside a Portland chainsaw company, where owner Joseph Cox set up a small casting shop to make saw teeth — a venture that spun off in 1953 as its own business. Today it is one of the world's largest such manufacturers and has been owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway since 2016.
