Provident New York Bancorp
A regional bank holding company that served the New York metropolitan area through its Provident Bank subsidiary, offering everyday commercial and consumer banking to communities across Rockland County and the Hudson Valley. The bank traces its roots to 1888, when it was founded in Haverstraw, New York, and later made its home in Montebello. In 2013 it merged with Sterling Bancorp and took on the Sterling National Bank name — partly because its "Provident" title kept getting confused with a separate, older New Jersey bank of the same name.
